AOAO Foundation at Work in 2020
By Gary S. Ulrich, DO, FAOAO
President, AOAO Foundation

Dr. Gary Ulrich

We miss each other!  Although we have been able to hold our meetings virtually, we still miss each other. We miss catching up in the lobby, the active question and answer sessions, and the social time with our residents, colleagues and friends. I hope we are able to meet live and in person very soon.

Nevertheless, the AOAO Foundation has been hard at work.  We completed a successful 2020 award and grant cycle, and we now are preparing for the 2021 cycle. Many thanks to AOAO outgoing President Dr. Terry Philbin and incoming President Dr. Fred McAlpin for their very generous sportsmanship and participation in the Foundation’s Ice Bucket Challenge this past October. With their efforts we were able to raise enough funds to support a $10,000 ORE-O Grant for 2021.

Additionally, the AOAO Foundation has been working on a Resident Research Portal due for release in July of 2021. This will allow residency programs to list their scholarly activity and request assistance and/or collaboration with research projects. Hopefully, we will see more multi-center studies as this tool matures. SAOAO members will also have the opportunity to assist in residency projects as requested.

The AOAO Foundation stands true to its mission of supporting osteopathic orthopedic research and education.  Be well as we anticipate the day when we all are together again.
