Some people can remember names. Others remember every hole on a golf course. A song can put most of us way back in high school!
Our new AOAO President, Dr. Steve Morton, has a particular memory talent. Wine! He can associate a friend, a place or an event with a bottle of wine.
His home collection of more than 500 bottles certainly qualifies him as a connoisseur. They come from all over the world. Somehow he can remember where most of them originate!
Dr. Morton was sworn in as the new AOAO President at our Annual Meeting in Atlanta. His organizational skills are exemplary. You can thank him for setting the CME Committee on track a few years ago, reflecting in the high quality of our educational meetings. Prior to that, he was chair of the AOAO Rules, Regulations and Bylaws Committee and oversaw major bylaws updates.
He is the ultimate example of “if you want something done, give it to a busy person”. Several years ago he observed “Medicine is being run more and more like a business”. With just 4 more classes to complete, he will have earned an MBA from Southern Illinois University! If that isn’t enough, he is pursuing his CPE, Certified Physician Executive.
His interests also include golfing, travel and competitive endurance bicycling. It is noteworthy he just completed a herculean 440 mile bike ride in 32 hours, qualifying him for The Race Across America. Look for more about that in an upcoming “DO’s that Do” feature.
Dr. Morton completed his orthopedic residency at Deaconess West in St. Louis under Drs. Vander Lugt, Weiss, and Farley. He finished with a Trauma Fellowship at Las Vegas University Medical Center of South Nevada. He now practices in a large multispecialty group with 10 orthopedists in Belleville, IL.
Home is in O’Fallon, IL with his wife Tammy and their two children Kaylin, 14 and Connor, 17.
Congratulations Dr. Morton on becoming our new AOAO President and thank you for your service!
