Introducing the 2020-2021 National SAOAO Executive Board
By Adam LaFleur
President, SAOAO

Adam LaFleur

The students of the AOAO are proud to announce the election of the 2020-2021 National Executive Board.  The board was elected at this year’s annual fall conference, held virtually on October 24-25. We were thrilled with the number of attendees, and I would like to take a moment to introduce the new board:

President: Adam LaFleur, The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Vice President: Annie DeVinney, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
Secretary: Stephen Doxey, Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience
Treasurer: Tyler Hunt, The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
Conference Chair: Julia Chung, Nova Southeastern University KPCOM
Recruiting Chair: Christina Schultz, Ohio University HCOM
Membership Chair: Evan Callahan, The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine

The new board members are extremely excited and honored to represent SAOAO, and look forward to serving our collective obligation to osteopathic medical students across the country.  We aim to continue the strong successes and high standards set by the previous board.

Over the past year, the national executive board completely redesigned the SAOAO website and student portal.  This change added a wealth of new resources for student members while simultaneously offering a more intuitive layout and increased ease of access to information.  The current board will continue to develop this new tool by adding a virtual orthopedics library for all student members.  This will allow students to have access to all necessary orthopedic literature needed in order to shine on audition rotations.

Over the upcoming year, the board will also aim to begin regional clinical workshops hosted by orthopedic residency programs.  These workshops will be formed with the main goal of more appropriately preparing students for what will be expected of them during audition rotations.  These clinical skills workshops will provide students the opportunity to practice casting and splinting, suturing, and learn essential fracture classifications.

Amid a fluid Covid-19 backdrop and a virtual fall conference that proved to be an overwhelming success, the SAOAO board is hopeful that we might once again be able to hold in-person conferences this upcoming year.  The next conference will be held at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, April 17-18.

We hope you had a safe and happy holiday season. Please do not hesitate to contact us at studentaoao@gmail.com.  Thanks again, and we look forward to hopefully seeing everyone in April!
