Registration is open for the Osteopathic Orthopedic Sports Subspecialty Certification examination this upcoming October 23, 2019, in conjunction with the AOAO Annual Fall Meeting, at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. This exam is the result of years of tireless work by our committee members and the delegates from the AOBOS and is intended to add an additional layer of specialty certification for our osteopathic members who meet the criteria laid out in the handbook.
To date, over 40 osteopathic colleagues have successfully passed the examination and are now recognized as having the designation of added qualification as orthopedic sports medicine board certified physicians.
The 200-question examination is designed to encompass the core knowledge of an orthopedic sports medicine physician. We encourage every fellowship trained, osteopathic orthopedic sports medicine physician, as well as those physicians in general practice, who meet the defined criteria of practicing primarily orthopedic sports medicine, to take this examination as soon as possible. Strength in numbers will provide the AOAO and AOBOS the greatest opportunity to assist our members with economic credentialing on the basis of certifications.
As innovative osteopathically distinct orthopedic surgeons, we must strive to never rest on our past successes. I, and the orthopedic sports medicine subspecialty committee, look forward to welcoming our outstanding osteopathic sports trained brethren into subspecialty board certification.
