Out With Winter Blues, in With the Thaw of Spring!
By Steven D. Morton, DO, FAOAO

Well, it is that time of year.  Hopefully here in the Midwest, as well as other parts of the country, we have had our last bout of freezing weather.  I am certainly ready for the thaw of spring.  Speaking of spring, have you registered for our Annual Spring Meeting (formerly the Postgraduate Seminar)? The meeting will be held in sunny Florida, and at Disney to boot!  The meeting program is being finalized and the hotel venue – Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort – looks amazing.  Bring the family and enjoy the lectures, friends, colleagues, mentors, family and Mickey Mouse.  You can even get your photo taken with two popular Disney characters during the Magical Happy Hour at the Exhibitors’ Reception for a donation to the AOAO Foundation. This event, along with a schedule of great lectures, will help make this a magical meeting.

I just recently attended the American Osteopathic Association’s mid-year Board of Trustees meeting. I realize there is frustration among the ranks with regards to recent changes by the AOA related to board certification and residency training. I had many conversations with the AOA leaders and I think they feel your frustration as well.  Things seem to move slower than we would like, but they are trying to make headway.  I would encourage you to take the time to become involved.  I would love to hear from you, and will do my best to make sure every voice is heard.

Within our own organization, our AOAO committees are working on several strategic planning initiatives. I would like to personally thank Dr. James Ingram for his hard work and dedication to the Membership Committee and Dr. Charles Orth for getting the Program Director’s Committee up and running.  And as always, many thanks to Dr. Dennis Blackburn for leading the CME Committee to make our meetings exceptional.
