Greetings from the students of the AOAO! At the Annual Fall Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado a new executive board for the SAOAO was elected. We had a fabulous turnout and a number of great candidates. I would first like to take the moment to introduce you to the new executive board of the SAOAO:
- President:
Zak Rose-Reneau, Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience - Vice President:
Adam LaFleur, Lake Erie COM - Secretary:
Tyler Andrews, Michigan State University COM - Treasurer:
Tyler Hunt, Lake Erie COM - Conference Chair:
Julia Chung, Nova Southeastern University KPCOM - Recruiting Chair:
Fred Vilson, Liberty University COM - Membership Chair:
Lisa Rosenberg, Touro COM-Middletown
I, along with all of the new board members, am honored to be representing the SAOAO and am looking forward to continuing the amazing efforts put before us.
Student membership significantly increased at the 2019 Annual Fall Meeting, but there is always room for improvement. At our first meeting, the new board members established a set of goals to work on for the coming year to increase member participation and opportunities through the SAOAO. We are in the beginning stages of revamping the SAOAO website to be more accessible to osteopathic medical students so they can visualize the benefits of being a member of the SAOAO. Running in parallel is a continued effort to establish an SAOAO chapter at every osteopathic medical school across the country. As the Ambassador program (an initiative of the AOAO Membership Committee) rolls out at the beginning of 2020 we hope to have our website completed so prospective students have a clear view of the value of a membership with the SAOAO.
Although the Annual Fall Meeting just ended, we are working hard to provide another educational and one-of-a-kind conference for all student members in attendance at the Annual Spring Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada from April 23-25, 2020.
Thank you to AOAO for all of your support and guidance in making SAOAO a huge success and benefit for osteopathic medical students looking toward a career in orthopedic surgery. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to reach out the SAOAO executive board at studentaoao@gmail.com.
Have a happy holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone in April!
